Evaluation of Research Achievements of Faculty and Incentives (national expenses)
Evaluation of Research Achievement of Faculty
- Evaluated separately for professors (serve until the retirement age) and for associate professors or lower
- Grade in to 6 levels according to performances on teaching, research, and other public services for the latest 3 years.
- Each college (evaluation unit) may allocate scores for each category (college) at their own discretion, but the total of perfect score should be 1,000 points.
Payment of Incentives for Faculty (national expense)
- Payment Period: The first allocation is paid in the first half of the year, the second allocation is paid in the second half of the year
- Payment methods: The first allocation is paid equally regardless of position, the second allocation may be paid differently depending on position and the grade of the beneficiaries

Grade D is given to faculty members who have not written a paper nominated as a candidate by the Korea Research Foundation in the last three years.
Academic research grant with Unlimited Themes (2 years)

- This grant is for newly appointed professors of PNU in order to create a supportive research environment and provide motivations on research.

Amount of payment per beneficiary
- Human sciences, social sciences, arts and athletes, and clinical study of medicine and dentistry: 5,000,000 won
- Science, Engineering, basic study of medicine and dentistry: 10,000,000 won
- Submission of outputs: Beneficiaries shall submit papers that published (nominated) for the Authorized Journals of Korea Research Foundation within two years after the end of the research period expires.

- Human sciences, social sciences, arts and athletes, and clinical study of medicine and dentistry: submit within 2 years after after the end of the research period expires.

Incentives for Excellent Publications
- The incentive system aims to improve the research capability and academic achievements of faculty members, and induce preparation of the best papers by providing motivation.
- Qualifications: Faculty members who have published papers as one of the major authors (sole author, first author, or corresponding author) during the current year from January 1st to December 31st (paper publication day)

Authorized academic journals
- International authorized journals: journals registered at SCI, SCIE, SSCI, or A&HCI (science and engineering)
- Domestic authorized journals: journals registered (registered as candidates) at the Korea Research Foundation (human sciences, social sciences, arts and athletes)
Papers, reports, and proceedings already submitted for academic research expenses with unlimited themes financed by the school supporting organization (2 years), the research support for newly appointed professors, and the post-doc support program are excluded. (but, SCI-class outputs submitted for the two-year academic research expenses and the research support for newly appointed professors are included)
- Maximum incentives per person: 5,000,000 won
Grant for Post-Doctoral Training Course (Post-Doc) Program
- Amount of grant: 900 million won (50 beneficiaries per year)
- Supported period: March 1 of current year to February 28 of the following year. (for 1 year)
- Areas of grant: all academic areas
- Amount of grant per beneficiary: 1,500,000 won per month per beneficiary (18,000,000 won per year)
- Selecting Method: evaluation of the publication achievements of advisors and trainees.

Research outputs of the major areas that have met the standards in terms of format and contents
- Acknowledgement as published achievements: academic journals, collection of dissertations, and academic periodicals

Percentage of contributions to joint research achievements
- Researches or publications made by one researcher: 100%
- Researches or publications made by two researchers: 70%
- Researches or publications made by three researchers: 50%
- Researches or publications made by four or more researchers: 30%
- When the researcher is the primary author or the corresponding author: 70%, regardless of the number of participating researchers
- Doctor’s graduation thesis (200%). Papers for promotion, tenure, and re-appointment are valid only when they have been submitted during the period.
- Primary author or the corresponding author who have contributed to one third or more of the achievements published in SCI-class journals and academic journals acknowledged by Korea Research Foundation

Criteria for Research Achievements
- New appointment: based on detailed evaluation standards established by each departments
- Re-Appointment to the Same Position: annual average of 100% or higher during the previous period of appointment
- Re-Appointment to a Higher Position: annual average of 125% or higher during the previous period of appointment
- Tenure: annual average of 125% or higher during the previous period of
Master’s degree holders receive 100% in additional points when they are promoted to higher positions (excluding master’s degree holders in arts and sports)

Review of Research Achievements
- Reviewers: The review committee consists of three or more members who are full-time instructors in the major area. Members of the Committee shall have higher positions than those of the applicants.
- Grades: Achievements are evaluated as one of five grades (A, B, C, D, or E), and the average grade of achievements shall be B or higher.
The graduation thesis, SCI-class papers, and papers published on academic journals acknowledged by Korea Research Foundation are exempt from the review.
