With the steady development of materials with high added value since the 20th century, materials technology has driven industrial development. Not only renowned universities in Korea and abroad but also enterprises have operated research institutes to devote their technological excellence to material sciences and engineering, and to conduct competitive research on the development and manufacturing of advanced materials. The Institute for Advanced Materials Technology of PNU aims to build the foundation to become a world-renowned research organization located in the Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do area by establishing the Division of Structural Material Research, which is dedicated to research on metals, ceramics, high polymers, and composite materials, and the Division of Functional Materials Research, which is dedicated to research on electronic, nano, environmental, and catalytic materials, and has been actively attracting investments from government organizations and private enterprises.



Major Services



1) Construction of a database on experts and research organizations

-Collection of data on researchers and professors in materials registered at engineering colleges and colleges of natural sciences of PNU

-Collection of data on universities, research institutes, and enterprises in the Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do area



2) Inspection of the status of domestic and foreign related organizations and enterprises

- Joint research and projects in partnership with domestic and foreign businesses

- Joint research and information services for organizations and businesses in the Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do area



3) Annual analysis of the material technological trends in Korea and abroad

- Themed analysis

- Development of industrial-academic cooperation initiatives



4) Attraction of government and industrial research projects

- Aggressive attraction of research commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Small and Medium Businesses Administration.

- Industrial-academic cooperation projects in partnership with large corporations and small and medium-sized local businesses



5) Hosting of themed symposiums on material technology

- Hosting of regular seminars (more than once per month)

- Hosting of local workshops (twice per year)

- Hosting of international symposiums (every two years)



6) Human resources development and venture promotion services

- Implementation of initiatives for the improvement of research and education in University and graduate schools

- Active employment of undergraduate and graduate students in research projects
