The Center for Advanced Medical Engineering Research was established to take on a leadership role in the advanced medical technology sector, which has been growing rapidly with the increased interest in healthy living. The center has undertaken a diversity of collaborative projects with Vatech Co., Ltd., the No. 1 medical imaging tech firm, and with the College of Engineering at Pusan National University, which is equipped with an advanced research infrastructure in a wide range of sectors.

Advanced medical engineering encompasses a broad range of technologies, including mechanics, electronics and electrical technology, nuclear power, medicine, physics, and chemistry. Currently, many major enterprises have been developing advanced medical engineering as a new growth engine for the creation of products and services with high added value.

The Center focuses on the development of next-generation source technologies and applied technologies through cooperation between industry and academia, and is striving to secure the global competitiveness of the domestic medical engineering industry, which is currently quite dependent on the technologies of other advanced nations, by developing key research and development experts.

The Center is currently involved in research on world-class medical devices that involve nuclear imaging, image processing, controlling, mechatronics, MEMS, and CAD/CAM technologies. The Center also operates training programs for the early development of young medical engineers and for the re-training of engineers already working in the field, and actively participates in seminars and workshops to identify the latest trends in the global medical devices industry.
