The Research Center for Dielectric and Advanced Matter Physics (RCDAMP) of Pusan National University was established in January of 1991, when it was designated as the leading research center by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation for the promotion of Korea’s dielectric and advanced material physics through the development of new scientific knowledge and the generation of a center of expertise. The center was also selected as a central organization of the Korea Research Foundation in September of 2000. Currently, more than 20 faculty members, including 4 full-time lecturers, full-time researchers, and graduate students, are engaged in intensive research within the center on the characteristics and applications of new dielectric substances.

The center has been actively engaged in a range of research activities that have been funded by governmental organizations, including the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information and Communication, as well as by various private-sector investors. It hosts the Ferroelectrics Symposium every year, and organizes a Korea-Japan Ferroelectrics Symposium on a biennial basis, serving as a research hub for domestic dielectric research.

In addition to hosting regular dielectric seminars on a quarterly basis and special lectures on a weekly basis, the center continuously operates international cooperation programs with research organizations in Japan and China.

As industrial advancement continues, industry is becoming increasingly dependent on solid-state physics. In particular, research on the diverse properties of dielectric materials is becoming a basic and essential area of scientific inquiry. This technology will become a core element of the industrially advanced society of the future.

<Major Research Activities>

The Institute pursues the following research activities in order to pursue new scientific knowledge in dielectrics and related areas, and to centralize related domestic studies through the development of new dielectric materials.

-Research on characteristics and applications of new dielectric materials

-Development of Nano systems by using quantum mechanics and Nano physics

-Research on variations in physical values according to changes of the system sizes of nucleon-nucleon and nucleus-nucleus at high temperatures

-Research on controlling the heat flow and dielectric flow using the interface

-Production of amorphous substances and control of Nano crystal generation by these substances

-Research on new functions of oxide semiconductors
