Micro Biological Resource Research Institute Go list page

Micro biological resources are essential in the areas of food, chemicals, medicare, healthcare, and environment. In order to apply these resources effectively, there is a need for base studies on micro biological resources. The Micro Biological Resource Research Institute was established to center around researchers using micro biological resources as their experimental subject within Pusan National University for the purpose of conducting base studies. The Institute performs concentrated studies on the utilization of new micro biological resources through equipping itself with joint systems or cooperation with research teams from the universities in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do, and local industries.

< Major Research Area >

1) Research Dept. No. 1: Micro Biological Resource Base Research Department

The Micro Biological Resource Basic Research Department is in the process of securing new biological information through genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics and metablotomics. This data is being gathered from existing known research, , and through the close examination of biological phenomenon from evolutionary, genetic, physiological, and ecological perspectives.

- Dielectric Analysis of the Plant Pathogenic Microorganism

- Close Examination of Microorganism Signaling Systems

- Studying the Ecology of Microorganisms

- Studying Biological Evolution

2) Research Dept. No. 2: Micro Biological Resource Practical Application Research Department

The Micro Biological Resource Practical Application Research Department is currently conducting studies to secure and develop new micro biological resources for human application.

- Studies to secure useful microorganisms needed in fermented food and their characteristics

- Searching for useful Polysaccharides that original from microorganisms

- Study on securing & utilization of edible or medicinal mushrooms

- Researching waste water treatment and the potential role of micro biological resources in solving environmental pollution issues

- Search for new medicine originating from micro biological resources

3) Research Dept. No. 3: Pathogenic Micro Biological Resource Research Department

The Pathogenic Micro Biological Resource Research Department studies the biological properties of each pathogen, and closely examines the mechanisms that cause pathogenicity in the micro organisms from molecular biology perspective.

- Close examination of the biological properties of the hepatitis virus and analysis of the mechanism that causes its pathogenicity

- Study of intestinal bacteria characteristics and close examination of their pathogenic factors

- Studies of immunological characteristics due to infection of pathogenic bacteria

- Researching new substances to limit or prevent the breeding of pathogens

- Development of vaccines for prevention of infection
