The Department of Korean Language and Literature has a long tradition, as it was established in 1948, the year that Pusan National University was opened. The department pursues the research and teaching of Korean language and Korean literature. It aims to nurture students so that they may be able to analyze Korean language and literature, and that have a critical approach to cultural s. It aims to provide a complete education by promoting close relations between faculty members and students, and to facilitate academic research for development of humanities. The programs of the department consist of three categories, which are Korean Language, Classical Literature, and Contemporary Literature. The Graduate School operates intensive academic programs for its Master’s and Ph.D. courses. Korean Language courses include Morphology, Syntax, Phonology, Semantics, and History of Korean Linguistics, while the Classical Literature courses include Classical Korean Poetry, Classical Korean Fiction, Oral Literature, and Korean Literary Thought. The Contemporary Literature programs promote in-depth research and education that deals with Modern Poetry, Modern Novel, Modern Drama, and Literary Criticism.
