Since it was established in 1979, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature has been engaged in the study and research of Chinese language and literature, developed on the vast land of China over thousands of years of history. The Department offers Chinese language courses, Chinese linguistics courses, Chinese literature courses, and other supplementary courses to help students to enhance their understanding of Chinese literature. The department also operates Master’s and Doctorate programs.
Chinese linguistics courses offered by the department include Graphonomy (文字學), Phonetics (聲音學), Exegetics (訓?學), and Grammar (語法學). In the area of Chinese literature courses, the department offers Classical Prose (歷代散文), Classical Poetry (古典詩歌), Eulogy (宋詞), Classical Novels (古典小說), Literary Theory (文學理論), and Contemporary Literature (現代文學). As supplementary courses, the department offers courses on modern Chinese society and cultures. Through studies on Chinese language and literature, the department pursues well-balanced education and an exploration of the human life.
