The School of Mechanical Engineering is proud to have a more than 50-year history. After being ed as a Specialized Engineering College in Mechanics by the Ministry of Education in 1973, the School of Mechanical Engineering was designated as a government-affiliated engineering department in 1994, was ed to join the New University for Regional Innovation (NURI) project in 2005, and Phase 2 of the Brain Korea 21 (BK21) Project in Science and Technology in 2006, and was ed as a Field of Specialization at College in 2007. As such, the school has received concentrated education support and investment from the government, which it has leveraged to offer the highest possible level of undergraduate and graduate education, with the aim of fostering talented individuals who are equipped with on-the-job aptitude and creativity. By integrating five branches - Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Precision Machinery, Production Machinery, and Control Machinery - the School of Mechanical Engineering offers a wide variety of educational opportunities to its incumbent students, and diverse career paths to its graduates. The undergraduate course focuses on developing capable individuals with creativity and on-the-job aptitude by offering education in dynamic and kinetic interpretation of machine systems; optimal design using computers; manufacturing and processing technologies for parts and materials in national backbone industries such as machinery, automobiles, shipbuilding, semiconductors, and micromini devices; various control theories to make many machine systems automatic and intelligent; theory in core technologies for energy, which has become a hot topic recently; Creative Engineering Design; and Capstone Design and on-the-job training. ◇ History Apr. 1953 Established the department of Mechanical Engineering, upon the launch of the College of Engineering Dec. 1973 Designated as a Specialized Engineering College in Mechanics by the Ministry of Education Mar. 1994 All branches ed as Outstanding Departments in the Nationwide Assessment of Mechanical Engineering departments Aug. 1994 Mechanical Engineering department designated as a government-affiliated engineering department (25 billion won in funding provided by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development over a five-year period) Mar. 1996 Integrated five branches in the area of machinery, and launched the School of Mechanical Engineering Mar. 2000 Two laboratories ed as core areas in the Brain Korea 21 Project (BK21) Project June?2003 Two laboratories each ed as a Nation Research Laboratory (NRL) Dec.?2004 Gained Accreditation Board Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) certification Feb. 2005 Selected as Outstanding Undergraduate and Graduate School for Mechanical Engineering by the Korean Council for University Education Oct. 2005 Selected to join New University for Regional Innovation (NURI) (20 billion won in funding provided by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development over a four-year period) Apr. 2006 Selected to join Brain Korea 21 Project (BK21) in Mechanical Engineering for the seventh consecutive year Nov. 2007 Selected as Field of Specialization at College
