The Department of English Language Education was established in 1969 as the English Major, in the Department of Foreign Language Education of the College of Education. It was separated to become the Department of English Language Education in 1982 when the Department of Foreign Language Education was restructured.
The Department of English Language Education aims to apply theoretical and academic knowledge in English and English education to real-world situations, and its faculty members and students are proud to be teaching English to the next generation of Koreans, to meet the needs of the globalized era. The department has gained a strong reputation for producing excellent English teachers and English education experts. Graduates of the department dedicate themselves to English education as skilled middle and high school teachers and English education experts, and some have contributed to the development of society as professors, journalists, employees of public corporations, and elite members of private enterprises.
The department pursues theoretical and practical research to address problems in English language education, develop the academic capability of the students, and enable students to contribute to society as English teachers. Its major programs consist of English language education, English linguistics, and English literature courses.
