The Department of Special Education was established in 1995, and generates special teachers and experts in special education. The department aims to produce graduates who are equipped with the ability to provide customized education for learners with diverse disabilities, and the skill to help the disabled adjust to society. The department strives to develop experts with a firm theoretical grasp of the development and personalities of disabled learners, through the development of the theoretical knowledge on disabilities and the aptitude required for special teachers. The ive of special education is to provide special educational methods and services that are differentiated from those of general education, in order to support the learning and adjustment of learners with one or more disabilities in the area of intelligence, social skills, communication skills, faculties, or functions. The target learners for special education include people with visual disabilities, hearing impairments, mental disabilities, crippled disorder, emotional and behavioral disturbances, communication disabilities, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, developmental delays, and other disabilities designated by the ordinance of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. The department offers an educational curriculum for the development of human resources who will provide the special education required for each type of disability, and help the disabled overcome their disabilities and successfully adjust to society. To ensure the quality of education, the department provides not only theoretical educational sessions but also the opportunities for practical work and volunteer services at partner schools and special educational organizations, to ensure the students develop a solid base of field knowledge.
