The department aims to generate capable physical education teachers and experts through courses on the theory and practice of physical education, and has recorded the highest employment rate of any university department in the Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do areas. The department established the Physical Education Major at the Graduate School of Education in 1980 for the re-education of teachers, and established the Master’s degree program at general graduate schools in 1982 to build an academic and research foundation. In 1988, the department established the Doctorate program at general graduate schools, fortifying its position as the leader of physical education in the Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do areas.
In 1984, the department established the Research Institute for Physical Education and Sports Science, with the aim of promoting physical education through the scientific research of sports, and improving the athletic performance and physical health of the public. The Institute publishes academic papers on an annual basis, and hosts semi-annual seminars to strengthen its research capacity. The department has improved its educational efficiency with the largest faculty of any of the sports-related departments in domestic universities, and has made the utmost effort to emerge as a research-centric department through the development of capable professionals.
