The Department of Music was established in 1982, the year the College of Arts was established. The department aims to contribute to the development of arts and the local community by nurturing music experts and music instructors in a diverse range of areas, including vocal music, piano performance, composition, and orchestral music for the 21st century, based on the educational philosophy of the development of arts experts of the College of Arts. The department has shown continuous growth since its foundation.

In order to achieve the above objectives, the department focuses on the development of the basic skills and techniques demanded of creative and unique performers. Its curriculum also features theoretical education in each major that is designed to improve musical understanding and interpretation capabilities. Students who opt for music education courses can develop their capabilities as music instructors. The department offers a comprehensive educational program that enables its graduates to serve in diverse sectors of society.

Currently, the department has more than 260 undergraduate students, more than 30 graduate students that are music majors, and more than 30 graduate students that are music education majors. Each year, more than 50 students graduate from the undergraduate program. The department is equipped with A/V rooms, a music archive, practice rooms, a concert hall, and more than 100 pianos for performances and educational sessions, as well as the Hall of Music, which was newly built in 2008. These facilities provide students with the ideal conditions to develop their skills and techniques, and the educational environment has been steadily improved over the years. Graduates of the department are currently working as performers, composers, and music educators.
