Bio-Industrial Machinery Engineering is a bio-mechatronics-based engineering science that applies various engineering technologies such as mechanics, electronics, and computer engineering, to agricultural and bio-industrial systems involved in the production, processing, storage, handling, packaging, and distribution of crop and bio-products. The primary mission of the Bio-Industrial Machinery Engineering academic program at Pusan National University is to prepare students for engineering careers that can develop products and design systems or processes for increased production of agro-products, efficient use of bio-resources, and protection of the environment.

The main research areas of the graduate program include the development of advanced bio-industrial machinery systems, automation in greenhouse cultivation, standardization for efficient packaging and distributions of agro-products, and the development of sensor and control systems for precision agriculture. Recent research focuses on enhanced packaging, quality and distribution of agro-products for human health and innovative engineering techniques for sustainable production of crop and efficient use of soil and water.
