The Global Hub of Medicine and Life Sciences

The Yangsan Campus of Pusan National University, on the strength of its excellent medical infrastructure, outstanding human resources, and powerful research capacity, has been establishing new hospitals, starting with the Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital and the Children's Hospital, which opened in November 2008. Yangsan Campus is located less than a 20-minute drive from the University's Busan Campus. Built on a plot of 1,120,806㎡ (floor area: 1,081,983㎡), Yangsan Campus accommodates a college complex, a hospital complex, a state-of-the-art industrial & academic research complex, and a silver industry & academic complex. The college complex houses the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Oriental Medicine, the College of Nursing, the Seismic Simulation Center, and student dormitories. In the hospital complex, Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital, the Children's Hospital, the Dental Hospital, and the Hospital of Oriental Medicine have been completed or are under construction.

School of Medicine and School of Dentistry, College of Nursing

The School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry are located in an eight-story building (Floor area: 17,674㎡) and a seven-story building (Floor area: 8,543㎡), respectively. Construction of both buildings was completed in December 2008, and is expected to help both schools to develop into stronger institutions.

Construction of a five-story building (Floor area: 6,295㎡) for the College of Nursing was also completed in December 2008.

School of Oriental Medicine

School of Oriental Medicine

The School of Oriental Medicine welcomed its first students in 2008. Currently, all lectures, research, and studies are carried out at Seonghakgwan, on Busan Campus. With the completion of construction on a six-story building (floor area 9,174㎡) for the Professional School of Oriental Medicine in January 2009, classes for 2009 will be offered at Yangsan Campus.

Numerous large-scale healthcare facilities, including Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital, the Children's Hospital, the Dental Hospital, the Hospital of Oriental Medicine, and the Rehabilitation Hospital, are being constructed in the hospital complex at Yangsan Campus. Of 1,721 wards, 413 opened in November 2008, and 757 opened in February 2009. The construction of Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital, the Children's Hospital, and the Dental Hospital is currently proceeding smoothly. Construction of the Hospital of Oriental Medicine was completed in January 2009. Plans for the establishment of a Rehabilitation Hospital have been confirmed, and construction will be completed by 2010. The entire construction of Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital will be completed by October 2010, on a floor area totaling 190,436㎡.

The BTL Dormitory at Yangsan Campus was completed in January 2009, with a total investment of KRW 19.3 billion allocated to the construction of this seven-story building. The BTL Dormitory accommodates 704 students at Yangsan Campus, enabling them to study in the best possible optimum environment.

Seismic Simulation Center, the Second of its kind in the World.

The Seismic Simulation Center is a three-story building with a total floor area of 3,932㎡. The University established the Center to support industrial and academic research on earthquakes and vibrations, and to promote the development of technologies related to earthquake-resistant buildings and disaster prevention. Another aim of the Center is to prepare a technical support system to facilitate research in related fields. The Seismic Simulation Center is only the second multi-platform seismic simulation center ever to be established in the world.

Yangsan Campus: Creating Green Energy through Solar and Geothermal Energy

With a total investment of KRW 5.2 billion, green energy generation facilities were established at Yangsan Campus. This "Green Energy Project" includes the operation of solar panel facilities as well as the establishment of heating and cooling facilities that use geothermal energy, and hot-water supply facilities that use solar heat, at the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, and the College of Nursing buildings. Recently, the number of visits by college delegates nationwide to benchmark Pusan National University has sharply increased. Delegates from more than 20 colleges have come to visit PNU, and have expressed great interest in PNU's successful reforms and restructuring, specialized development plans for each campus, and innovation in the college management system. Among the areas of interest, delegates have been particularly interested in PNU's rich history of development. Based on its state-of-the-art education and research environment and world-class research capacity, PNU is doing its utmost to transcend national boundaries, and join the ranks of globally-renowned universities.
