PNU runs Global Studies Program

In 2009, Pusan National University launched the Global Studies Program (GSP) program, which is available to students as part of a double major. GSP is an innovative program in which all lectures are carried out in English and, taught by native English speakers according to a western curriculum. The aim of launching this program is to enable students to experience a high-quality education curriculum that is on a par with programs offered abroad.

GSP consists of a comprehensive inter-disciplinary curriculum that provides extensive access to economics, business management, international studies, philosophy, law, and more, to students, while providing classes that focus on presentations and discussions. In addition, the compulsory courses in the program include numerous English-related subjects, including English presentation, English discussion, English writing, and negotiations in English. This helps students to improve their ability to effectively express their opinions in English. In addition, the school offers student exchanges, overseas internships, and overseas research programs to select students during breaks.

As part of its efforts to develop this exciting program, PNU hired three native English speakers as full-time faculty members, who were scouted from renowned colleges in English-speaking countries. These professors are fully in charge of the GSP curriculum, and PNU plans to gradually increase the number of native English speakers involved in the program.

All PNU students who become sophomores in the first semester of 2009 can apply for GSP. Students will be selected based on their English test scores, GPA, and an English interview. More information is available at the GSP website ( http://gsp.pusan.ac.kr ) for students who wish to apply.

PNU has high expectations for the GSP program, and many predict that it will contribute to strengthening the global competitiveness of PNU and to fostering learners armed with global insights and strong leadership abilities. PNU plans to continue to support GSP as an elite program.
